Immersion Workshops

Our Mission

To advance the training skills and knowledge of past attendees by partnering with an expert trainer and immersing them into every detail of the process of management and training of a variety of animals

Workshop Summary:

These unique, tailored experiences allow previous workshop graduates the opportunity to return to the Ranch and spend five full days taking a deep-dive into training and applying the art of behavior change principles. In the immersion workshop, you will spend the entire day with your group leader and experience every little detail that goes into preparing the animal, environment, and reinforcers to help ensure successful training outcomes.

The Immersion Workshop is designed to reveal the fine details of everyday life as an expert animal trainer. By working shoulder to shoulder with an expert trainer for the entire day, you will learn every little detail that goes into preparing the animal, environment, and reinforcers to help ensure successful training outcomes. You will have access to a diverse animal (and human!) team at the Ranch who are available to help fine-tune the skills that you want to develop, from practicing the prerequisites of free-flight to exploring methods for voluntary hoof presentations with a miniature donkey. The sky is (literally) the limit for the behaviors you can train. With group sizes limited to a 1:3 leader-to-student ratio and only two groups per session offered, the experience is designed to ensure you have all the one-on-one attention and flexibility you require to maximize your ability to artfully apply the science of behavior change to all of the learners in your care.

Over 50 species of birds and other animals are available for you to work with and train, and we are committed to engaging you as an active participant in developing your own personalized curriculum, along with the expert guidance of your group leader. Flexibility is our goal, and your needs help define the schedule. Before you arrive, our instructors will meet with you virtually to establish some of your high-level goals so that we can ensure you are able to get as much practical knowledge as possible out of your time training with us at NEl.
