Increase Your Reach: Tackling Training the Whole Zoo (and Beyond) – Tim Van Loan
The Albuquerque BioPark is a 2-mile-long facility incorporating a zoo, aquarium, botanic garden, heritage farm, and public beach along the Rio Grande River in New Mexico. With a living collection that spans the entire facility, how does the staff make time to incorporate welfare while caring for every animal, every day? Join Tim Van Loan, NEI Supervisor and full-time BioPark Behavior and Enrichment Manager, to get a look at how you can apply simple methods and utilize small efficiencies to ensure the highest level of care for all the animals in your life, no matter your background!

Session 2

All Together Now: Considerations for Training Animals in Groups – Chris Jenkins
Animal care in zoological institutions often involves juggling a number of different tasks at the same time, including when what’s being juggled is a number of animals that share the same space as we manage their husbandry, enrichment, and training. This presentation looks at some of the special factors trainers working with groups of animals need to consider, as well as tips and ideas for making these interactions safe, productive, and successful.

Session 3

A panel of NEI TEC faculty members gather to have a conversation about their thoughts on the presentations and questions from the previous sessions, as well as best practices in training, enrichment and welfare.
